We are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Specialist Screening Practitioner to join our team.

The North of Tyne Bowel Cancer Screening Centre is a partnership between both Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust and Newcastle Upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust. The post involves providing high quality and seamless patient care for the North of Tyne population, who are being screened for bowel cancer. The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner following a probation period and  will be responsible for the delivery of care to service users across multiple sites of both trusts. The post will be based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle with an additional office at North Tyneside General Hospital.

The nursing care is delivered through nurse-led clinics, telephone follow up and support during endoscopic tests. In addition, regular health promotion activities are undertaken to promote the programme with primary care staff and the wider general population. 

Successful applicants will require excellent communication, and holistic assessment skills, as well as a keen interest in endoscopy, polyp management and general cancer care. Previous experience in endoscopy, colorectal or cancer nursing would be advantageous but not essential, as would familiarity with health promotion practice and the running of nurse-led clinics. To ensure a patient centered service is offered, the ability to work across site and on some evenings and Saturdays is also crucial. 

The successful applicant will be expected to complete the Screening Practitioner's course at Liverpool John Moore’s University within the first 12 months of coming into post - This is a mandatory requirement for the role and includes a residential element. Candidates will be committed to continuous professional development, possess excellent communication organisational and managerial skills, and the passion to deliver to the highest standard. Excellent team working and prioritisation skills are crucial. 

The ability to be flexible & organised in the workplace with a passion for delivering a quality and successful service is essential. We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic, innovative and flexible individual with the ability to work in a potentially demanding and diverse workflow and to work on his/her own initiative, as a member of a growing team. 

Essential Criteria:

- 1st Level live NMC Registered Nurse

- Registered Mentor

- Diploma/Degree Health Related

- PP126/127, D32/33 or equivalent

- Experience in specialty

- Significant post registration experience including previous experience in the specialty 

- Experience of working as part of an MDT
