We are one of the country’s top performing NHS Foundation Trusts, looking after the wellbeing of around half a million people across Northumberland and North Tyneside – one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS Trust in England.

We deliver care from 11 acute sites including an emergency care hospital, general and community hospitals, an outpatient and diagnostic centre, an elderly care unit and an integrated health and social care facility.

We are rated ‘outstanding’ overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We are one of the North East’s largest employers with 9,500 dedicated members of staff. We have a Council of Governors with 70 members, representing the public, staff and some of our external partners.

We invest heavily in staff to ensure that the best talent is attracted, developed, looked after, and retained in every area of the organisation. Staff satisfaction is high and our staff consistently rate us as one of the best places to work in the NHS.

We were one of the first NHS Trusts to receive foundation status, and have been a foundation trust for over a decade.

Candidates must read the entire ‘Applicants Guidance Notes’ before submitting any applications.

Please note that it is a requirement of this Trust that all successful applicants pay for their own DBS certification if a DBS check is required for the post.  The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first monthly pay.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, following the secondment of our Consultant Pharmacist in Cancer Services to the post of National Cancer Pharmacy Lead for NHS England.

We are offering a 2 year fixed term secondment or direct employment for a Band 8b or 8c pharmacist (depending upon experience) to be based in Northumbria. Within the role the post-holder will also provide two days per week supporting NHS England as a local specialist cancer pharmacist, with flexible working arrangements.

Northumbria has a large oncology service covering haematology and common cancers across our four main Hospitals sites (North Tyneside, Cramlington, Ashington & Hexham) and two rural chemotherapy units (Berwick & Alnwick).  You will be given the opportunity to become the lead for chemotherapy in the Trust, working closely with consultant oncologists, haematologists, lead cancer nurse and Trust managers.  You will be expected to provide clinical cover to the oncology wards managing a portfolio of oral chemotherapy patients with opportunities to work in clinics alongside oncologists and develop the role of the pharmacist prescribers in oncology.  You will spend two days a week working as an NHS England specialist cancer pharmacist supporting the regional (North) CDF team and providing the link with local clinicians and commissioners, working with the cancer alliance & chemotherapy group, and industry to lead regional projects.  You will be given dedicated time to support education, research and development, with opportunities to publish and undertake practice research.

This offers a unique and exciting opportunity for an oncology pharmacist to gain experience of working at a lead/consultant level. We have the highest proportion of pharmacist prescribers in the country, using their skills for patients on general wards, in specialist clinics, in care homes and patients’ own homes.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is England's most northerly NHS Trust, and one of the largest, stretching from the banks of the Tyne up to the Scottish Borders
